Design
I used the 5 Design Concepts when planning out and executing my Flash.
• Balance
• Proportion
• Rhythm
• Unity
• Emphasis
My Flash video uses photographs that I traced in Flash. I changed the color scheme to gray scale with bits of color to give it a more serious tone as well as draw attention to the parts that I felt needed more attention. I used photographs of people that I vectorized in Illustrator to be plain silhouettes. I felt that having silhouettes as opposed to actual imaged of the people helped the tone as well.
I felt that everything in my flash had good balance; I don’t feel that any particular element outweighed the other in a way that was distracting.
The proportion in my flash was also spot on. It was easy to tell who the parents were in comparison to the kids as well as the older sibling in comparison to the younger one. In addition, the things that were more important (like the cancer ribbon at the end) were much larger in size.
I felt that there was also very good rhythm to the video. Nothing seemed to move too fast or too slow and the attention of the viewer was held throughout the whole movie.
It’s hard to question the unity of the video. There is a very apparent black/white/grey color scheme, which unites the whole video and creates a darker tone. Also, all the people are represented by silhouettes as opposed to more detailed images.
Finally, there is a distinct emphasis with color throughout the video. The more important elements are in color, which contrasts greatly with the black and white color scheme of the rest of the video.
